Title: Runoffgroove Ginger - supply voltage
Post by: Jay on November 17, 2019, 01:12:21 PM
Hi,

Toying with gutting the dead pre-amp section of a solid state combo and building a ROG Ginger into it as a bass practice amp for my son.  I've got +/- 15V available, can I run the Ginger at 15V (assuming e-caps suitably rated)?  If on 9V the JFET drains are trimmed to 6V, 2/3 of supply, then use 15V and trim to 10V?  Or is it going to screw up the gain structure and distortion (not that I particularly want it for distorted purposes).

Failing that I can regulate down to 9V.

Sure, it'll even have more headroom and probably will sounds better.

For the jfet voltages, is not that they should trimmed to 2/3 of the voltage supply. The best way to bias them is to set the voltage to around 1/2 of the supply, then fine tune them by ear. So you'll be around 1/2 to 2/3 of the voltage.

Perfect, thank you!
