Title: The Klon trick - where am I going wrong?
Post by: james_shames on March 09, 2021, 01:54:50 PM
Hello everyone. I have a strange (an repeatable) problem. Every time I build a Klon power supply I cannot get the -9v at pin 5 of the 1044. I think I've tried a few 1044s, most recently a TC1044SCPA. The rail voltages on the second op-amp are +14v and 0v. I've tried breadboarding it, vero, PCBs, always the same issue.

Am I going mad?

Show us the schematic you used and pics of your assembly.

i'm not familiar with charge pumps etc, but try this:

Thanks for taking a look. Just breadboarded it again to take a photo and it works perfectly. I'm definitely going mad...  :icon_redface:

You are not going mad.

I remember my engineering school labs had exactly 3 troubleshooting techniques that were successful for correcting breadboard problems:

1. Turn on the power supply
2. Connect the wires from the power supply
3. Rebuild everything, repeating 1 and 2 as necessary
