Title: tc electronic footswitch replacement
Post by: snow123 on April 14, 2021, 04:17:39 PM
ok, so i spilled some water on my beloved tc mojomojo, everything works fine, but the footswitch gets stuck. and its a 2pdt switch and i only have 3pdt switches, and it has pins to connect to the pcb and all of my footswitches use lugs. so i connected 6 solid core wires to 6 out of the 9 lugs to connect it to the mojomojo's pcb. would this work?

You probably need to connect your six wires to 2 columns.. vertical

Rather than the 2 rows...horizontal.

So you have a dpdt......

I would suggest to buy the correct 2pdt footswitch as they are a little smaller in physical size (height) so for the sake of a few quid will make life so much easier to fit . Alpha 2pdt latching. On the other hand if you prefer to fit a 3pdt switch then vertical pin outs are the way.

I should also add a pic of how the stock switch is on there + how I would install my make-shift footswitch

Do what Mick says: the replacement switch is readily available.  You'll only have grief trying to get that 3PDT with its extensions into place (I'd wager you won't get switch+PCB to fit at all).

+1 to what mick and marc said....(now youve shown the pcb pics)

those switches are readily available with the pcb pins.  8)

solder sucker....and replace with same switch. done.  8)

well the thing is that i cant really find any 2pdt switches that use those pins. i can only find ones with lugs.

What are the pin measurements?  It's an Alpha switch in the photo.  Looks like the ones you can get at Tayda or Small Bear, among other places.

lmao the solder connecting the footswitch to the pcb wont melt

this sounds like a paradox, but put your solder onto it, then suck....

it'll heat up better and flow.

As Rob said, Reflow new solder onto the pins before trying to de-solder. The solder on the original will be lead free solder and needs a higher temp to reflow. If you put new solder on using leaded solder then it is easier to remove the solder at the next step.

I know it sounds counter productive to add solder to remove solder but this is the way to do it.

Removing a footswitch without damaging the PCB can be tricky if you have not done it before.
