I heard this on a recording and lately found out what phaser it was. This thing sounds better than any flanger I have yet heard. Anyway, does anyone know what phaser would be close sonically to this? The song I heard it on is Sonic Youth's Diamond Sea on the Washing Machine album. Thanks in advance :)
The HC reviews of this are interesting:
http://www.harmony-central.com/Effects/Data/Ludwig/Phase_II_Synthesizer-01.html
The only thing I know about this is that it's big and really expensive. I would also like to know more info on related sounds... I guess what I'm trying to say is "bump :D"
One review says the schematic is inside the unit. You could try emailing one of the reviewers and ask them to make a copy of it.
I've got the schematic that is inside of them. It isn't complete, however, because it doesn't show any of the multiple switch connections. I did correspond with someone who actually owned one. They were supremely kind and went to the trouble of tracing out the switch connections for me. I built up the basic circuit on a breadboard and never got around to wiring up the switches or figuring out the 36 volt power supply.
I owe some other people on this forum some schematics, I can send my info out to someone if they want to work on it at the same time that I make copies of these other things. It's not a simple circuit at all. I think there are somewhere near 35 transistors, not an IC in the circuit.
Ry
I have never seen one of these units, but from HC it seems there is a fuzz effect on it also. I am only interested in building the phaser part of the circuit. If anyone could send me the schem that would be great. Hmm, no IC's......... :?
Diamond Sea is a wonderfull song!I didn't knew that this sound came from a flanger...!And no ic's???
...and it's quite big,too.
http://www.geocities.com/~stompnet/Main/Gallery/Ludwigphasetwo.jpg
It's not a flanger, but more of a swept filter/phasor effect.
Picture a phasor that's way more vowelly sounding, so it ends up going "yoyoyoyoyoyoyoyoy"
It's very vocal/formant sounding, and not like a typical phasor. It's a very cool effect that not many other pedals with give you.
They are huge, hard to fix and way too expensive.
Line 6, are you listening?
(yes, you are! :)
Roger
How do you insert a figure when it's not on a website? I have the schematic from the inside of the pedal but I'm not sure how to insert it in here...
Ry
Hey Ry, could you please send the schematic to my email adress?
Thanks for the photo link Toneless, it matchess my Ludwig gold sparkle grill drum set perfectly!
no problem, I don't see your email address listed in your profile...
Ry
Oh man, what an oversight on my part. Now my email is listed. Don't know what I was thinking  thanks Ry.
could I get a copy as well?....I have a friend who may still have a dead one in his attic-.......hmmm.........
ah, Ry: could I enlist for that e-mail, too?
thanx in advance
puretube@freenet.de
Ry - Please add me to your email list for this one, too? 8)
Thanks
~ Charlie
Ry
Schem please!
fp@tonepad.com
Thanks!
thank you, RY: now that is a nice big schematic for the reversers...
Could you put me in the list?
munkydiy@hotmail.com
Quotenow that is a nice big schematic for the reversers...
Hahaha, yeah, it took me a LONG time to build it on a very large breadboard.
Ry
Ry,
I sure would like a peek at that schematic, if you get a chance to send it my way.
Thanks in advance!
Derek

Hey Ry,
please add me 2 your list 2.
:D
i sent U a PM also with my email add.
:)
thanx in advance

There are many people interested in this schem (me too!), can you upload on a site?
Okay, I guess I'm in too.
mhammer@ccs.carleton.ca
If there is still space in the cc field, I'd like to take a look :)
travissk@yahoo.com
Ry,
Please add me to the list as well.
Thanks!
Stefan
OK, thanks to Ry, I have the schemos and have had a look. It's not too much more complicated than the Maestro Rhythm 'N Sound for guitar.
I suspect that we can reverse engineer the circuits back into something simpler for diy stuff.
Interestingly, the only phaser section I've been able to spot looks more like the transistor ladder style phasers than the ones we normally play with. This is good - I have a lot of phasers and have had many more over the years. The only ones I still have and use are the univibe and the MXR Fullrotor, which is a ladder based phaser, same circuit as the Little David Leslie simulator. Good stuff, if more complicated than we normally use.
It may take a bit, and I will need a look at the connection diagrams, but there is hope.
R.G.,
That's really great news! It's been a bit of a personal quest for me to get one of these (or build a working clone). I will send off the switch connection diagrams tonight. I have a lot of pictures of the outside of the effect that I've pulled off of the web over the last 5 years if they might help.
To everyone else: I will be emailing you the schematics in a few hours.
Ry
i've been after this schem without news....of course i'm also in for the schem. Thakns a lot!!
sfeirwt@infovia.com.ar
Hey Ry,
Thanx! mucho! for the Schemos.
Reminds me of the G-synth that Anderton built in the first issues
of DEVICE. Then there's the EH-Micorsynth.
Hey, do U have a full "head shot" of the unit?
U know, a straight-on jpg of the front panel.
the jpg U linked 2 and the one at Fulltone R far-away shots.
A clear FP shot would tell me the knobs and sw functions.
Right off it looks like a hi-Q vocal filter among a few other things.
Hey, thanx again for the monster bmps.
Good thing i have cable
Hey aron, think i got the hang of the emoticons!
:D
thanx again Ry
If it's not too late, I would love to see the schematic too!
Thanks!

Woe Dan!
Nice jpg of the frontpanel!
Thanx!
Boy, that schemo is so convoluted, Ry.
I've modified the contrast, and zoomed up,
then printed out 2 several pages and then
taped them together. Have trouble reading
some of the words/numbers on the schemo.
Anywho, when U breadboarded it, did U redraw the schemo?
I'm trying 2 follow the signal flow.
Dan, Ry, where did the guitar plug in?
tone
"animation", "format trajectories"???
Perhaps someone other than Ry can send me a schematic?
ickystay@hotmail.com
Thanks,
Dan
Hello.Ry.
Please send a schematic also to me by mail.
dig_suck@yahoo.co.jp
Guys,
I'm really sorry about not getting the schematic out to all of you :( ...I did a mass emailing to about 6-8 people last night and it took FOREVER to send from my dial up (these files are BIG). I think a couple of the people I emailed bounced back because now when I open my mail, it starts chugging along for about half an hour, then hangs with only about 1/5 of my message content downloaded. I need to resolve this issue before I can send from my mail again.
Sorry guys, I will try to get this resolved as soon as I can...
That's O.K. Ry, I sure understand the (ahem ack ack)"speed" of dialup and large files. We all really appreciate you trying!
Dan
Is it possible for someone to post this schematic on the net?I think it's a very interesting and rare toy...
By the way it's true that it doesn't has any ic's?
If someone sends it to me I can have it posted tonight! :D
email:
edited!!! see below
actually, there's a schematics echange discussion group @ YahooGroups.
Upload 2 Yahoo's drives. 8)
Ry sent them 2 me.
My cablemodem didn't have 2 much problem.
i have resized. recaptured, and adjusted the schemos.
i use the Groups 2 xfer large files 2 myself soz i won't clog my
email box.
U all interested?
I'll upload the original and my modded if U want.
That way, U can load at your own *speed*.
Post here or PM me.
That OK w/U Ry?

Oh Kay,
I've uploaded Ry's large bmps and my smaller jpgs.
the doc is a copy of the NFO in the email he sent explaining
the switch connections and other questions.

2) turn off mail messages if U want 2 stay joined.
3) goto files section
4)find folder "Ludwig"
5)download all the files U want
6)remove yourself from the group, if U want.
got any files 2 upoad?
this is not *my* group.
i did not creat it.
i found it a while ago, just B4 i joined StompBoxForum.
enjoy!

Yay toneman!!! Thank you! Thanks Ry too!
I can add it to the Maestro USS-1A as wonderful head scratchers!
So, who's got the Hammond Condor schemes?!?
Dan
Nice work Toneman!
 This thing looks quite difficult to be done...
Thanks a lot Toneman!
If anyone has trouble figuring out what the values are, I can help out. I have the originals that I made the posted scans from.
I never re-drew the schematic when I breadboarded it. It was on my list of things to do and then I moved...a few times and it's been collecting dust ever since.
Ry
I have been trying to download the files, but i can't. It's like a restricted area. I have received the email, no password in it. I'm already a member of yahoo groups. How can i do to download the files!??. Thanks a lot!
Make sure you're subscribed to the group (a member) and logged in as well.
I've been unable to download some of the larger files; I assume this is yahoo acting up or enforcing a bandwidth restriction.
SWT,
log into ONE of your groups.
GOTO "MyGroups" at top/right of page.
look @ all your groups.
1 password works for all groups.
YahooGroups and this StompboxForum are NOT related.
U can edit your groups from "MyGroups".
It's working 4 everyone else.
Give ago again...
