Title: My Big Muff clone
Post by: SonicVI on August 14, 2005, 02:51:40 PM
Here's some pics and sounds of my first completely finishished pedal project.  The finish could've come out better but more importantly it works and sounds good.

Nice build!  Great Big Muff knobs.  Ben Folds is one of my favorite non-guitarist musicians.

Nice job! I just finished my Triangle Big Muff and placed it in the Russian Black enclosure.  BTW - the pots that come with the  Blck Russian have skinny shafts and are a PITA. I had to use alpha ones.

i recently finished mine, too. it looks decent, mostly so because my *&%*&%^ decal smeared on the words. i think it keeps its rating because it is fluorescent orange with a black decal covering the entire face, except where words are. i would post a picture, but it's kind of unpretty... so i don't really wanna

It was my first time using decals so next time I think it'll be better. I'll cut them out closer to the lettering to mask the outline more. I thought maybe the clear coat would build up around them and make them less obvious but it didn't.  Or I may just cover the whole face of the box with decal next time.

Looks like it's solid and will be gigworthy for a long time to come.  Nice work, and great attention to detail.

My one BMP looks like a switch 'n 3 knobs on a panel with a buncha other switches and knobs !!!
The other is in a Nicely bondoed RACO, painted black, noo comparison...
The most important thing is that you have a BMP you can depend on to ROCK !!!

I love those huge EHX knobs. I have them on my Frequency Analyzer, and I'm wondering if I'll not put the same on my coming distorsion...  :D

Just a question, as I think about it.

How/where do you buy hammond enclosure ?

Thanks for the compliments guys.

I usually buy my enclosures from www.mouser.com though there's a local electronics superstore called Fry's (I think they only have stores in TX and CA) that stocks them if I don't want to wait the two day delivery time from Mouser.

Picture Frame decals...
where the edge of the script substrate ends, why not put some kind of raised framing around the lettering...seein' how it never wants to go flat.
Get the workpiece stuck to a toothpick...get black paint, thick in a soft brush, mount the brush then very carefully practice dipping just the edges of the decal very carefully to depth, all the way around, to make a black borderline where the edge would show...maybe even make the outside border shaped.
This should leave enough paint to hide any edge lines.
Never tried it, since you mentioned it I got to thinking.
