Just wanted to say, that I built an Ampeg Scrambler today using a pcb I etched myself, from the Tonepad layout. And it worked first time! :shock:
I haven't had that happen to me since I built my Stratoblaster, so I'm a happy man!
Only difference from the layout, is the polarity of C3, which seems to be wrong, but that's not a new thing around here. Other than that, I must say I really like the layout, and LOVE the effect! I'm into that broken sound, and in fact, I wouldn't mind if it was even nastier...

Congrats. that is one that didnt fire up first time for me. Had a few wrong value resistors soldered in. If you searched you probably seen the thread.
Its an acquired taste, I have mine housed in an old plastic laptop PSU enclosure.
I find it useful for noise making.

Congrats! I tried perfing that one twice and failed both times. I actually had it going once for about 5 minutes and then nothing from then on. Ill be etching a board for that in the near future. I t does have a really cool sound- so unique.
yeah, I really like the texture of it's sound, but I think I'll try changing the input cap and maybe some other stuff too. It is a bit on the thin sounding side..

I built one from the pcb layout at Tonepad a few months ago thought it was a bit too thin as well and also the volume drops when I start mixing in the straight signal. Sounded really good going into my Jordan Bosstone, but kinda disapponting on it's own. I fixed the volume drop by adding a LPB-1 circuit at the end, switching out the input cap is next.
Gus Smalley's OUSB (Octave Up Sick Box) blows it away, IMHO. Better octave on a wider fretboard range, more gutteral snarl and a more extreme white wash noise is there if you want to push it far enough. I put a 10uf input cap on that one and I love it, so maybe worth trying on the Scrambler too.
I just have a feeling older isn't better in this case. Cactus used the Scrambler on their albums and the track "Evil" is a great example of it in a working real song use with great results...... probably helps having it plugged into a big ol' cranked up tube amp as well, hahaha!!!!!
sounds really good feeding a fuzz factory then into a cranked amp. :twisted:
