i get them, and sometimes i don't. ???
they point towards 3 or 4 different 404s or errors...

What's the deal with the settings in your profile "Receive reply notification only for the first unread reply" in the "Notifications and email" section? Should that box not be checked to get email notifications of a reply to a post?

should be checked. What this means is say i reply to this thread, then someone else does, and someones else again, and so on. You will only get one email, instead of getting an email for every reply and filling up your mailbox. :icon_wink:
My email notifications used to work when i first became a member, then it didn't, and it keeps going back and forth. when we got the new forum, it didn't work most of the time, but now it does. If you get them in the future, read the email and immediatley delete, because if your old mail is filled with these emails then the mail box will recognize it as spam. :icon_wink:

Go into your browser preferences and delete all cookies related to diystompboxes.com
Go back into Profile and save the notification settings:
Profile->notifications and email->Save Settings.
Possibly remove the topic and subscribe to it again.
It worked for me on one of my accounts which wasn't getting notifications.
I tried what you suggested. We'll see if that works...

Well, that is the only one I have ever received. What do I have to do to get email notifications to topic replies?! Am I going to have to create a new account or something? :icon_confused:

go to each topic you wanna be notified of,
hit the notify button,
WATCH wether the popupbox sez: sure wanna ENable... or: sure wanna DISable.
you can also see which topics you`ve all subscribed to, in your profile.
btw: the forum only notices wether you`ve visited the topic,
when you`re logged in...
(and maybe doesn`t remember, wether you`ve visited it last
in the old forum - so go there again
I've done as Aron suggested, I also clicked "notify" on the main stompbox board.
I now get random emails from some "new posts" - none of which I've replied/posted to !!
I'm still not getting any from current topics that I've posted/replied to ... ?

When you click notify on the main board, you should get a notification for every new topic.
In the profile there's a list where you can see what you have subscribed to:

What did you do to make it "work" for you?
be sure to be logged in
on the current forum,
have "log in each time you visit" checked,
and be sure to have requests for notifications
on the same PC, you`re watching the forum with.
maybe the fact, that I browsed back and checked out
each topic of interest wether I`m suscribed or not,
and correcting it, if forgotten in the past.
for starting new topics: be sure that notification is ON by default.
HEY: just noticed, that the sub-fora/links show up now,
in the classic theme, too :)
I went thru all 84 pages and unsuscribed every topic. I checked all of the appropriate boxes and deleted the cookies. We'll see if anything happens now. :-\
BTW, I visit this forum using two different computers - one at home and one at work. That never made a difference in the past...
I haven't gotten them either.
I frickin' give up. There's been several replies to topics I am *trying* to watch (since this afternoon), but I have not received any notifications at all. I have tried everything, and I still get nothing. ARGH!!! :icon_mad:

I upgraded the forum to 1.1RC. There were lots of notification fixes in the 1.1 upgrade. Hopefully you will get your messages now.

Here's your problem, I think. Â The system thinks you have not viewed any replies to your posts. Â Click on the "Mark As Read" or "Mark All Read" button on the right and that should reset things.
I know it seems lame that you have to be logged in but it's a minor inconvenience in exchange for an awesome search function. Â :icon_biggrin:

It should have cleared every thread that was in there out and say "No messages" or something like that. You basically marked all replies to your posts as read. Now, if you are still subscribed to any of those threads in your profile, then you should get a notification that a new reply was posted, like from this one.
I think the problem may be my email adress. It's currently psalmist@att.net - I tried to send an email from my work station to my personal email address and I did not get it. I did try psalmist@worldnet.att.net and that did work, however. Do me favor? Reply to this post and I'll see if that does anything.

EDIT: DOH! I spoke too soon - I just got the other email. But it seemed to take a lot longer. There might be something here, though.

Well, I deleted all my cookies, have the computer set to accept all cookies and I even restarted the computer. STILL NO EMAIL!
I am beginning to think my account is jacked up. Am I going to have to create a new one?!
Let's check a few things. Your cookies shouldn't have anything to do with this, it's all on the server side, or the software side. Do this, check all the checkboxes in the Notifications settings in your profile, just for kicks and grins. Set things up just like mine since I am getting notifications. After you post your next reply, there will be a "Notify" button at the bottom right next to the "Reply" button. Click on it. It should ask if you want to enable notifcation or disable notification. If it asks to disable, click cancel, this thread is set to notify you. Just sit back and wait and check the "Show new replies to your posts." after you reply every so often.

Bad news - still no email notifications. BTW, when I replied to this last post, I checked that "notify" box and it asked me if I wanted to disable notify, so it is indeed on. This is very strange, not to mention frustrating. :icon_sad:

Well dang. The only thing I can think of is some sort of spam filtering but since it worked on phpBB, it should be fine. They're coming from the same URL......ahhhh, but is the email address they are from the same?

I don't think it's spam filtering at my email address, either. Why would they email address that they are from matter?
spam filters have many different variables, and some check that the email address its from isn't from a list of banned networks, and others check that the email is *actually* from the network it says its from. In any case, I doubt its a spam thing. I'm not receiving email notifications, and I have complete transparency and access to my email servers, and nothing is being blocked on my end.

The email address is only one variable. The ip of the mail server is anther.
Here's something we can try. Paul, I will make you an email address, now all you do is simply replace your current email address with the one I give you and lets see if you get notifications. Check your PM for more details.

I think it's more like imploding A.S.P. - three new replies so far since I've changed stuff and still nothing. They are going into a email blackhole where the pull of gravity is so strong that my emails get swallowed up and never arrive at their destination... :icon_wink:
At this point you need to check with your ISP. I think it's being filtered out at that level, not at your computer. If you have webmail, check your account using webmail before you check mail with your computer.

Well, right now I have it set so all "spam" goes to my screened mail first. I have received no email notifications from the forum whatsoever since I have changed that setting (which is currently in effect since I have junk in it now). I think something is wrong with my forum account. Maybe something got corrupted or something? I am 99% sure it's not a problem with my email filtering setting(s).

I believe we've proved that it is at your ISP level. The forum is indeed sending email. It doesn't care whether it's a diystompboxes.com account or your personal account. Code is code - it just fills in the text. The fact that you don't see it at your computer means that it's being filtered out before it hits your computer.
It's not your local filtering settings, I believe it's happening at your ISP mail server settings. Ask them why mail is not reaching your computer.
Think about it. I bet we could change your email address for the forum to a gmail account and it would work. The reason why it doesn't reach you is that it's being filtered before it hits your computer. Ask your ISP if they use any type of anti-spam filter.
When we say it's being filtered, we don't mean at the local (computer level), we mean at the ISP level.
It's probably ATT.

I only use my email provided by my ISP - I never use Outlook Express for email because I don't want stuff on my computer for safety reasons. That means I go to att.net and access my email address and do all emailing from there, not my computer. Therefore, if I set the spam filter at my email account to send stuff to my screened mail folder instead of deleting immediately as it's received, it will all be dumped in my screened mail folder. I have had 43 screened emails since yesterday afternoon and not a single one of those was from this forum. I don't know what the heck is going on, but it's certainly strange!
The ISP filtering is even before you access your ATT.net even online. They filter it before it hits any mailboxes. The only strange thing is that I am not getting bounce backs from them.

Paul, get the IP address that is associated with diystompboxes.com from Aron and ask ATT if they are blocking that IP for some reason, or any other IP's within that same address range. That definitely appears to be the problem.

EDIT: A copy of those emails are supposed to be going to my att.net email address, too, but they apparently never make it. This is odd, because I have my spam filter turned off and if AT&T did think those email notifications were spam, I should now be getting them. I guess I'll have to get with AT&T on this. FWIW, this would be the first time in 5 years (or more) that anything like this happened when it shouldn't be happening...
OK, I promise I will stop bringing this up after this post. AT&T is stopping those emails before they get to me. I tried sending an email to my AT&T email address from my diystompboxes.com email address and I got this message back... check this out:

So the question I am left with is are there a bunch of shysters (sp?) using this forum server to send out a bunch of spam? I wonder... In any case, very interesting - I've never ever had any problems like this with AT&T until this forum moved. Well, at least now I know what is happening. :icon_frown:
EDIT: And I tried sending an email to a different AT&T email address that I have which does not have any spam blocking available, and I get the same message as above. There's some bad juju associated with this forum's IP address or something... :icon_eek:

I wonder if they blacklisted the entire ISP's octet range (IP address range) or if they just blacklisted the IP that diystompboxes.com has, which may have been associated with a now offline domain that they blacklisted in the past. A quick call in to their support line should give an answer.
You may be able to convince them to allow mail from Aron's domain only. They should be able to add an exception to the list.
