So far as I can see, you can get the chip with the (proprietary, and very god) Alesis reverb algorithms already onboard. Links on the page to the manufacturers (Wavefront).

Sure, one effect at a time, you're changing the software with the mode switch.
If you are into software, you could write your own program to do more than one thing, but of course then you need to work out how you are going to map to knobs to control more paramaters. the same problem all DSP boxes have.
What Alesis should have done (for us) is a cheesy single spring algorithm, including a way to simulate kicking the box.
Unfortunately I'm not into software at all. If you can't use more than 1 effects at a time it's maybe worth only the reverb effects because they are most difficult to make otherwise. It seems to me like a better idea to control a chain of analog effects in series using encoders and digital pots.
