Title: CA3080 vs. CA3080E vs. NTE996?
Post by: AlexK on September 12, 2003, 10:09:46 AM
Does anyone know if there are any noticable differences between any of these parts in a Ross Compressor?  I bought the NTE996 b/c it was cross-referenced on mouser.  Does anyone have any experience with these?

Thanks,
Alex

I used the CA3080E in mine and it sounds great.  It's also the one used in the Saffron Squeeze and the Keeley Compressor.  Mouser sells them 570-CA3080E.

*Which* 3080 should not make a difference.  Other than whatever comes along with being "milspec" the metal can ones are not audibly different than the plastic DIP ones.

On the other hand, the CA3280 dual OTA *does* have different specs than a 3080 and is not just a pair of 3080's in a larger package.  Jim Patchell has extensive material about their differences at his site.
