Title: Just boost right?
Post by: JasonG on June 15, 2007, 12:18:12 PM
Hi
Just finished the booster. love the sound subed in an audio pot for the liner for till I can get one. This thing just boosts right? When I turned it down it was at line level. It would not cut all of the signal out.
 Thanks Jason

If the opamp design is non-inverting, it cannot fall below unity gain. That is usually not much of an issue, if you just use an output level control, or if you only need boost. If you design your booster as inverting, gain can go to zero, but there are performance costs (noise, I think?).

This is a transistor (not opamp) based project that uses bootstrapping for gain. You are correct, it only boosts, you cannot lower the volume with the pedal. Congrats on your first build! The NPN boost is still one of my most used clean boosters.
