Title: Anybody built a crash sync?
Post by: demonstar on June 20, 2007, 03:37:30 PM
Hi, I've just finished my first project (distortion plus) and was very very pleased, (my first pedal; I never thought it would actually happen!) I'm looking for another to do now. i quite fancied a synth style pedal for guitar and I found the crash syncand it doesn't look too complicated. Has anyone built this or got any recommendations?

not to derail your thread, but doesn't it feel good? as soon as i plugged in my bazz fuss(my first pedal) and it worked i was hooked. i have pretty much become oblivious to everything else.

Yeah you telling me? I've been in dreamland all day. I learnt a lot of valuable lessons such as how to use a drill for a start, not to paint paint too thick too soon and I was thrilled to have a problem and be able to resole it with a bit of help from folks here (it turned out to be a faulty pot.

What was your second pedal foxfire? I know I want to build another but I'm just not sure what to build next.

If you have a tube amp I would suggest building a booster so you can push for more distortion/overdrive.  Not to mention they are very simple!

These are known to be good if not great:
AMZ Mosfet Booster
AMZ Minibooster
Gus's NPN Booster (Beginner Project)
Runoffgroove.com's Omega
MarkM's Viagratone  ;D

Synth like pedals?  Not sure if these are synthlike but you may want to look into them.
Tim Escobedo's Thing Modulator
JC Mailet's Nyquist Aliaser
ExpAnon Colin's Analog Bit Crusher
Doug Deeper's Random Noise Generator
Tim Escobedo's lofomofo
Tim Escobedo's Uglyface

I'm sure there are many that others can recommend but these are the ones I can think of off hand.

The Crash Sync looks kind of hard to me - maybe it's the handwritten schematic that's putting me off.
Tim Escobedo's Pulse Width Modulator (PWM) is dead easy and sounds ace
Bazz Fuss - just a simple fuzz but with spongy synth-y texture.
