Title: Walkthrough?
Post by: Schappy on May 26, 2008, 11:40:12 PM
Is there a walkthrough available for this project? Im having trouble understanding how opamps work and some of the info on the websites alluded to are hard to digest for a noob.

i'm not sure what you are looking for.  did you try reading the op amp material on gaussmarkov.net?  it starts with Op Amps 1: Description (http://gaussmarkov.net/wordpress/parts/op-amps/op-amps-1-description/).

Your examples are great I just need it to be simplified. For example:

We set up a voltage divider to send approx 4.5 volts to the non-inverting input at pin 3.

How does the 9V from pin 7 interact with this voltage to get the output voltage at pin 6?

How does the feedback loop work to create the gain in the opamp?

Why a high pass filter at input and a low pass filter after the coupling cap?
How exactly does diode clipping work?
How exactly is the low pass filter used to clean up the power supply?

I apologize if this type of dissection wasnt meant to be in this project. Its just difficult to find a tutorial that matches the math and theory with the practical application of the circuit in a digestable manner.

Thanks for all your great info.

If you have a few bucks available then I'd say get the diy ebooks from indyguitarist (http://www.indyguitarist.com/diy/ (http://www.indyguitarist.com/diy/)). I'm reading through the "design your own" one at the moment and it's covering some of the topics your asking about.

Not sure if it will help much, but might.

Good luck! It's a great feeling to be able to make FX yourself  ;D

i was just reminded of this thread by some recent activity: What does that bit there do? Learning to understand circuits. (http://www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/index.php?topic=47572.msg350968#msg350968)

it doesn't start with the circuit in this project but it gets there.  and it's a good place for more questions.

all the best, gm  :icon_biggrin:
