Title: DIY MIDI footswitch-to-PC setlist control
Post by: surfdaworld on October 09, 2009, 06:41:05 PM
Got a crazy idea the other day to try something like this-- http://www.bilila.com/pagescore_turner (http://www.bilila.com/pagescore_turner) in a diy digital songbook/setlist project, but I want to implement it using the MIDI protocol--that way, I can reuse the controller with a keyboard, synth, Ableton, etc....

Aron's excellent co2 MIDI launcher looks to be mac-only at this point, but I found these two software packages that seem to be able to do similar things for a PC:
http://www.bome.com/midi/translator/ (http://www.bome.com/midi/translator/)
http://www.midiox.com/ (http://www.midiox.com/)

I've also found numerous references to DIY MIDI controller interfaces, mostly based around an Arduino or PIC stamp.  The problem is most of these appear to be discontinued, insanely complex (I'd prefer to not have to program the PIC myself), or outrageously expensive.

Has anyone found a simple and cheap kit or project to translate a momentary switch press to a MIDI message?

I could just buy a Korg NanoPad, but that would defeat the whole 'DIY' aspect...............
