Title: high quality long lasting capacitors?
Post by: speghead on June 05, 2010, 08:57:58 PM
Ok this isn't really music related but I'm giving it a shot.. I have a bunch of DELL desktop computers with blown capacitors (280uf, 2200uf, 1800uf, all 6.3v), so I want to replace these with something that will hopefully last longer.  I believe the computers are to be on 24/7.  Can anyone help which brand capacitors I should get off of the Mouser?

Use "aluminum-polymer" caps. Rated for much longer life in motherboards.

Be prepared to us a lot of heat to get the original caps out of the motherboard holes; there are internal copper ground and power planes that siphon off heat.

I just did this a few months ago on a motherboard. Works, but takes some soldering skill.
