Title: Fuzz placed before Mojo and Neo Vibe
Post by: yeeshkul on October 22, 2010, 09:24:51 AM
I was comparing Neo and Mojo vibe some time ago. Neo was better sounding with clean guitar or just to a cranked amp.
It does the heart beat phasing really well. Mojo is milder, not that prominent phasingwise.
However -
when i placed a fuzz unit before them, then Mojo processed the fuzzed signal much better - it was smooth and nice.
Neo doesn't work  well with the fuzz unit placedin front of it. The sound is somehow swashy, swirling .... say ugly.
What can make the difference? The LDRs? The signal path of both these Vibes is almost the same, with a few minor value differences.
Any idea?

Try a little before and a little after. Some overdrive and fuzz
before and after will help smooth out the harshness.
Or if your amp has some gain...

Did you have the Mojovibe in classic or modern mode (internal dip switches)? That could definitely make the difference.

I tried both modes on Mojo and both were working fine with the fuzz in front of it. Both were milder that Neo though.
I think Neo sounds closer to the originals than Mojo.

I use my MojoVibe in front of my fuzz, with an overdrive after the fuzz.  Works well for me.  In fact, I also like my Chorus and Phaser pedals before dirt, even though the conventional wisdom is to put them later in the chain.  Mike Fuller also advises putting Vibe first.  But, it's a matter of taste.

Yeah I've tried mine first and last and it is definitely a different vibe in both cases.

Guys yes, fuzz before and after the vibe does sound different and it is matter of taste for sure.

However the question remains: why does Mojo process the fuzz smoother than Neo. And saying smoother is not matter of taste in this case
Mojo lets the fuzz go through like a knife through butter, where Neo processes the fuzz like a washing machine.

EDIT: John, thank you, i'll check it out!
