What's wrong with a Millenium I?  Technically, what you've posted is more like the "Clinton Bypass" - not true bypass since the FET is still connected to the input signal, even if it does represent 100s of megohms.

Oh yeah, the H11F1 is kinda expensive in 1s and 2s to boot :(

Claus H

I have said NOTHING about this being true bypass.. is it better to add small dc offset on the output and diodes from output directly to gnd as the Millenium does but it this is how you feal forget I ever mentioned it will be removed..

Sorry don't want any trouble..

I downloaded the schematic to check it out. Don't sweat it.

Don't take it personally, I was only pointing out a perceived disadvantage, not raining on your parade.  To be more precise, Voodoo Lab calls this setup "true bypass" when in fact it's really not.  Not that any sane person (unless your first name starts with E and last name with J) could tell the difference.

Gilles C

Too bad I didn't have time to see it.

I'm not affraid of a false-bypass (not true-bypass...)

It's not for nothing that I experiment with FET-bypass...

Is it possible to get the schematic somehow?

Yeah, it's implemented in the schem here:

Also if you look at the "Technology of Bypass" article at geofex.com, it's similar to the "Clinton Bypass".

Thanks!

I checked with Google for Clinton bypass. But only found the heart surgery...

I didn't think it was on GEOFEX.

Geez, Man; get a little thicker skin.  Why take down your post just because of one comment that wasn't even what I'd call 'negative'?...

Yeah, it's there, in the "Technology of Bypasses". I dreamed up the Clinton Bypass when we were listening to Bill Clinton lie under oath by telling us that he didn't believe we could tell what he was saying from the truth.  The idea that one couldn't tell it from true stuck, and I decided to immortalize Clinton for what he really is/was by naming the bypass after him.

On the other hand, it works very well, removing the only real objection to the always-connected tone-sucking input.

I find that my stuff is showing up in more and more commercial pedals as time goes by.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

could you have patented the design? you'd be sitting on a pile of cash, and you wouldn't have to go after DIYer's who used it

K

Paul Marossy

Yeah, I'm sure that RG could have patented it. But attorney fees are quite expensive, and I'm not sure that RG wants to spend all of his time in court...  8)

Gilles C

And we all know that it wouldn't stop big names from using it anyway...
