:)

First want to say hello and let you all know that I'm not a tech. I have re-wired guitars, speaker cabs. But what brought me here was that I was able to put in a DPDT switch into my crybaby with good results. (I'll change from the TDK inductor later). This got me to re-think my pedal board and I think instead of trying to add a True bypass switch to each effect, I'll use bypass pedals. I have the schematics for one from this site but would like someone to walk me through it. There are some things here I'm not too sure about. Especial how the LED is wired.  And also the input jack has three wire attachments ?   :?

I already have the Carling DPDT switches. wire, some 1/4 jacks (not switch craft) Need to either buy or make my own boxes, buy the LED and resistors.

I'm thinking that this should be a fairly easy project and could lead me to trying other things.

Thanks in advance.

LEd with DPDT...that'd be A Millenium Bypass [Geo Article] ...just did my first onethe other day...NICE. I used an MPF102 Jfet.
EZ-er way is to start with a 3PDT Switch, also you don't need a board with PS 'n control wires going to it. Just use the 'extra P and one of the extra T's...run the V+, current limiting resistor,  LED, ground through one side [the effect on side] you assigned to the switch.
On high gain circuits, some probalems may be thwarted by running the signal paths through the 'outside' switches...LED sw in the middle.
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

Go to www.generalguitargadgets.com and browse around.

There are a lot of really good tech FAQs there about different kinds of bypass and how to wire those.

Also, do a search for "bypass box" or "true bypass 3pdt" or something and look around in the archives of this forum.

You'll find plenty of wiring diagrams for bypass boxes with and without LEDs.

OK, Thank's

Just spent some time reading up on all of this and the one thing that's got me confused is .............what is a JFET or a MPF102 Jfet?

I could make the bypass box without the LED but if it's just a simple explaination to help me understand how to do this,  then please explain. It is appreciated.

mpf102 and j201 will work either way. Just watch the pinout. Check out www.diypedals.com, it has some layouts for millenium bypasses. Also check out Joe Davisson's LED trick. I use it all the time and it only takes a VERY common 2n3904 and a 330k resistor. Wires up the same way as a Millenium 2 bypass.

They're transistors.  J201, MPF102 and 2N5457's are the most common JFETs (a type of transistor), you see them in a lot of boosters and distortions.

If 3PDT switches are readily available to you, and within your budget, it is easier to use them for a bypass box with LED indicators. Also, a bypass box built with them requires no power for switching purposes ( just to light the LEDS). I just built a dual loop bypass box with LEDS using Aron's diagram for wiring the 3PDTs:

Aron has 3PDTs for sale at a great price:
