I just got a couple lm308's from Sm. Bear. They are in a metal can. I looked at the data sheet
http://www.national.com/ds/LM/LM208.pdf
and I can't tell if I'm supposed to be looking "through" the can or if its a bottom view. Can anyone help me figure out the correct way to read these? Thanks in advance.

Its as if you were looking at the thing from above, the little part that sticks out denotes the 8th pin. The pinout is prettymuch the same as for the regular DIP8 type package (which is basically the standard for most single-opamp, except for the compensation stuff on pins 1 and 8 ). With some bending I had one mounted in a regular socket for a while.

Thanks! So if I'm looking at the top of the 308 (legs on the bottom), pin 8 is the one with the tab and 1 is to the left and the rest are going counter clockwise? Thanks again.

Yep, just like in in the data sheet
