Yust finished the small Ruby amp and I realy like it, not as loud as I expected but still great!

I have replaced the red Led for a Blue one, calculated that I need a 4.7K resistor in front of it, it shines well.
but when I play it fades away, what can I do to keep it 'steady'.

Thanks in advance.

yeah, I've got the same problem. 4.7K is too much IMO because blue leds have higher voltage. I'm using mine with 470ohm IIRC..it will increase voltage.
try using large electrolyte in front of led from + to - to stop fading...I'm not sure that it will work, though

I use a 1k with blue leds on 9v

I used a green one with one of my Ruby builds and it runs fine with a 2.2k resistor. Like bancika said; try reducing the resistor value and see what happens. First try 2.2k then 1k and etc. until you find one that works with your LED.

By the way, I didn't mean to say "increase voltage", but increase current. More mA means more brightness...to a point. After that more mA means LED dies :)

Hi B2thea! ;D

I have nothing to say in any relevance to this thread, so I'll just :-X

with my BlueBox I just built I've been having LED problems... I thought I fixed it but... no light.
Is it possible to 'fry' a LED?

Absolutely! If you didn't have a sufficeint resistor, the LED would get too much current, and...zap...
For fun, take an led and apply it directly to a 9v battery's terminals, and see how long it takes to burn out.   ;D

Snuffy

heh yeah... I had it in the box with no resistor for a while. Sorry for hijacking the thread

If the LED is fading in brightness, it's probably because your power supply cannot supply enough current, so the supply voltage is sagging.  This may be why it isn't loud enough too.  Give it a better battery.

Ge_Whiz

Better still, do away with the LED and your battery will last longer or your PSU will be less likely to overload. It should be fairly obvious when the Ruby is on...

bancika

I had the same problem with 1A power supply which should be more than enough for both amp and led...is there any other explanation for such behaviour?
Could it be the speaker? I used 12" grenback.
