microphonic batteries.

I was working on one of my stupid boxes today, and it was making a poping sound... kind of a dull pop, but a pop none the least

I tapped the front of it, and i heard a tap through my amp.

i opened it up, and tapped arround, and tapped the battery.  my amp tapped really loud.

I replaced the battery, and problem gone....

You'll have that..er maybe that's it.
 I had a battery with intermittent contact between the terminals and the cells. It would charge and discharge, and after a time I could use it no more.. but when the power got cut and restored of course I'd be getting the connection pop we're probably familiar with [the sound you get with the efkt on, amp on then Power supply connected]

Would go well with my microphonic daisy-chain cable.  

I thought a power supply cable was too simple to go microphonic, but the proof of the contrary is on my living room floor.

A common failure mode of rechargable cells (at least some types) is for metal crystal filaments to grow across inside them & short them out. So this doesn't suprise me! (I think those "blast a voltage pulse across it" rejuvination schemes are designed to burn these out).
