BOSS OD-3

I just got myself a brand new BOSS OD-3.

I couldn't resist to try one. That's my kind of overdrive I suppose...

And it will be easier to build a clone (someday) or design one  :roll: , now that I have one to compare with.

And by looking at the schematic on this site, I think I got a better feeling about what my ears like to hear...

I just had to tell someone!

I'm a fan of the OD-3 as well. Kind of a sleeper, since everyone is so ga-ga over Tube Screamers and the boutiquey stuff like Tims and Klons and Landgraafs and whatnots.... I think there are a lot of great tones to be had out of the OD-3. The top end can get a little much depending on the amp, but it stays pretty big down below, for those who hate to lose bottom end.

I just got one today real cheap out of the blue, and I'll tell ya, I don't like Boss pedals much anyways but this one sounds better out of the box than any of the other ones with 15 mods done to them...I was pleasantly surprised

It's always fun to learn that we're not alone to like something.

From the Boss book, the BD-2 (for Blues Distortion of course) has sharper edges than the OD-3. I also find it a bit too harsh with my Fender amp.

But the OD-3 is smoother to my ears, has more sustain at max overdrive without being too fuzzy.

... And one of my guitars needs more highs. I also like to keep the bottom end.

I'll work on the circuit on a breadboard someday. They call it (BOSS) a 2 stages distortion, a second generation analog distortion.

yeah, the od3 is my main overdrive too....i used to use an od 1, but it loses some bottom end and doesn't have much headroom. i think the od3 is perfect. it has lots of different uses. if i can only use one boost/distortion on a gig, this is the one i bring.  jon
