This is probably a stupid question, but I'm actually curious if the way I've been mounting my pots, jacks etc is correct.

I'm curious if there is any convention about washers, nuts etc and where they go.  I've always had this order:

nut
washer
case
jack (or pot) in case

Obviously the nut has to be on the outside of the case to hold the component on, but should the washer be on the outside or the inside?  Does it really make any difference?

thanks

the washer keep you from messing up your paint job on the outside... you got it right.

Don't forget the star type lock washer on the inside, between the pot and case. This keeps them from loosening. Look at your switches, they usually have them. So do most commercial effects. Amps too.

I alway had the problem that the shaft (where you put the nut and the washer etc..) of the pot was too long. I now make spacers from 15mm copper pipe, to fill the height.

Also you can use two nuts, but I always have pots coming only with one nut.
