look for the post "distortion using different parts" [or something like that]..on there is a WASP schematic.
 Try with input buffer. Killer.
Low parts count, but you'll have to go to Darlingtown if you don't already have one, I used an NTE47, and a RS diode, a really great sounding Hybrid Fuzz/Distortion.
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

One stage of a CMOS 4016 switch biased as an amplifier gets you straight into metal land, with a miniscule parts count too.  I posted a schematic a while back, should still be in the archives.

Ignore the derogatory comments on the schematic (if you could be bothered to look), I'm not a metal fan (though it sounds good...if you like that sort of thing).

I'll have to second RDV!

Or try Brian Marshall's Stupid Box (do a search, it's in here somewhere).

Ciao.

Aron Nelson's Smash Drive. I'm not really sure if it's a distortion or an overdrive, but one thing for sure, it's HEAVY.
Oh yeah!
