I had a artist friend of mine paint my enclosure and it looks great just the way it is (pre protective coat). We did some test with differant sealants on the inside of the box, all of them added a shine that took away from the asthetic look. So, my question is, are there any kinds of protective coats/sealants out there that won't add that shine but still protect the paint?

You could try using what ever you are using, then using fine sand paper to sand the protective clear layer.  It might take away the shine. At least it works for mine when i used those spray on lacquer. Do try it on some unimportant area first though!

Well, you could always try (and I say try because I never have, this is totally guessing) doing a glossy protective finish and then going over the whole thing with a matte finish clear spray. It might not be protective, but that's what the glossy stuff is for. If the matte finish isn't very tough, then nicks through it would just show the shine underneath. . . but what nicks and scratches make things shiny? Once again, pulled out of my ass, but try it on a scrap, it might work.

try the Semi Gloss Laq. paint, it doesn't dry to a shiney finish but will be as tuff as the other, JD
