Perfboard Blues

Hi Guys,

Im in the UK and I want to get hold of perfboard but it seems impossible There dosent seem to be a UK supplier! All i can get hold of is strip board and tri hole board.  I know there is Small Bear but I wanted a uk supplier

Are there any tutorials on strip board/tri hole board?  I havent heard of any of u guys using them!

I do all my initial builds on vero, then if its worth it I put it on a pcb. Got quite a few vero layouts but nowhere to host them ...  :?

That's the *evil* perf with unplated holes, isn't it? That's the stuff that makes people hate perf!  :lol:  Radio shack carries usable plated hole perf. Does the UK equivalent carry it? Plated thru holes are ideal, but the single sided stuff works. Of course the unplated stuff *works*, but...

What's wrong with unplated perf? It's all I use now and I've never had any problems. It's particularly easy to unsolder components when you make a mistake (which I've done occationally  :wink: ).

Never heard of 'plated' perf. What's the point? You'd be better off with tri-pad or stripboard (which is what I use. I only use perf for RF circuits where stray capacitance is a problem).

Your the Man, I like the unplated perf too, it helps you understand the circuit better if your layin your own trace's with the leads of your parts and pieces, and like you say, it's easy to back up and correct the circuit without worry'in about liftin a trace or a pad,

I use unplated perf too. I've built a bigmuff, easyvibe and a small stone on it. I find it easier that plated OR stripboard.

a beginner thought..

but wouldn't it be easier just to make PCB?

i do understand the copper-pad-per-hole board concept just to know that there aren't etching mess, guess that copper pad per hole is cleaner..

but how would i transfer the layout of PCB into pad per hole board?
i know those leads are used for the connecting, but never really got hold of the idea...

also how would we construct on the unplated perfboard? isn't it just fibre glass plate? isn't there some sort of copper support in order to make it work?
