so ok, i replaced the Diode that some one suggested may have casue my Ds1 to stop working but that didnt work, some1 else thought it might be teh IC, which i havent replaced, can anyone tell me how do check if its the IC using a DMM?

tahnks :D

Take the voltages on all 8 pins of the IC.  Obviously, pin 8 should have +9VDC, and pin 4 should have 0V.  All the other pins should have some voltage on them, somewhere between 2VDC-4VDC, so if you get some with 0V (like I did when I repaired that broken one that I got for free) you'll know that the IC is bad.

Here are the voltage readings that I got from mine with the fried IC:

Pin 8 = 8.79V (slightly weak battery)
Pin 7 = 0.7V (drops lower the longer the meter leads are touching it)
Pin 6 = 0.7V (drops lower the longer the meter leads are touching it)
Pin 5 = 0V
Pin 4 = 0V
Pin 3 = 4.33V
Pin 2 = 0V
Pin 1 = 0V

ok im pretty sure it thats that has blown  :) , now anybody no where in the UK i can get a replacement? should i contact Boss?

I'm sure all DS1's have the inline IC. I'm NOT sure however what to replace them with but it looks like you have that covered. I DO know it's not a 4558 that came in them tho. That being said I think AnalogMike puts 4558's in them but I don't think the pinout is the same between the stock IC and the 4558.
Good luck replacing the IC and let us know how it goes. I am interesyted to see how it fits etc. etc.

All three NJR opamps that Fretwire posted have the same pinout as the Mitsu. M5223AL that's being put in the new DS1s, as well as the older BA728N opamp.  The one I had to replace was a BA728N.  The only difference between those two IC models is R40, which is a 1K resistor between V+ and pin 7 of the M5223AL IC.  R40 isn't in the BA728N models.

I would use either the 4559L or even better, the 5532L.

Same here, especially the 5532L, not a bad deal at 50 cents. :)

Well I'm glad you straightened me out on that~!! I wasn't sure that they could be swapped. Like I said I know AnalogMike puts 4558's in his when he mods them.
I learn something new everyday and thats why I keep coming back :-)

Peace everyone~!!

The older DS-1's had the standard 8 pin DIP IC.
