I have a request to supply parts for this one and will work up a B.O.M. for my library. Has anyone successfully subbed for the 2SK30A? If so, what did you use? I will look for the original when I go shopping in the fall, but would like to offer something readily available for now.

Perhaps a glance at the data sheet could help someone find an accurate match?

Note that there are 4 IDSS classes- R, O, Y, and GR.

It would be nice for once and all to have an easy to get cheap sub for this fet!

Thanks Steve!

You can look at any newer Boss schematics to check what they use in place of the 2SK30 they were using in the old days.

But the main thing is to have one available easily.

Right now, I am decided on the J111-J112-J113 series which is available from Vishay through a distributor near where I live. But the pinout is not the same.

The J113 was used in some Ibanez effects I think.

Btw, I'm also open to other suggestions  :)

I think they use(d) 2SK118's after the 2SK30A's.  Whether or not they still do, I don't know cos I only have older Boss pedals.  Somebody somewhere is still making or sitting on a huge pile of 2SK30A's though, cos Banzai and another few UK retailers are still selling them and the prices don't reflect a FET that is hard to obtain like the 2SK246 used in the FA-1.

NTE459 works great in my Funnycat clone.
I'm not sure there's anything especially unique about that JFET, tho.
Other possibilities... BF244, BF245, BF346, 2N3822, 2N3823...

While checking how I could modify the SSTS prototype I built a while ago, I noticed that I used a 2SK30 for the input buffer...

Then I kind of remember where I bought some 2-3 years ago.

So this afternoon, I checked with the guys at the store where I go and buy things once in a while, and bingo, they had at least 50 of them. ($0.74 CAN each)

When I asked about them, the guy asked me: "That's for a Boss pedal?"  :P

He told me he was selling some of them quite regularly, and was always ordering some to make sure he had some in stock.

So, maybe it would be better to stay with the 2SK30, and try to find a place to order them instead. It seems they are not so hard to get once you find a place where they agree to order some and keep them in stock.

Now I have 25, and I have 30 more coming in the mail...
