hey guys i have a question it might be basic but i have a 9v dc adapter for my boss pedal and i would like to also use this for my other pedal that runs off of a 9v ac power supply since the one i had is burnt up and i cant find a replacement for it unless i order online from the manufacturer. is it possible to split the power off the 9v dc adapter and run the dc to my boss and convert the other into an ac current.
also if you have any kind of info on spliting a singal guitar signal with a lowpass and high pass out put so having two outputs with there own volume controles and if possible there own variable frequency adjustments im guess an eq or tone control but verry basic no effect no distortion just the volume control and the ability to adjust the frequency output of each into there own output jack.
my problem is i just got a boss mt2 (metalzone) from a friend but i cant get a good bass response even playing into my swr bass amp which has tones of bass but the pedal doesnt let anythrough to it i like the tones i can get from the mids and highs but now i need to rout my signal so i can add a different dist maby with some nice compression for the lows and keep the signals nice and deep. then i want to mix the two signals and plug it in. (is there a basic 2 channel mixer pedal i can build) any suggestions?

kinda what im thinking of here:
for the second dist pedal i like rdv's HMP but dont know how it will sound with just lows i would also like to have some nice compression on the lows to hopefully stop any rumbling feedback from the bass and also improve the pick attack for quick single note rythm but still keep a nice long sustain. (possible?) for the second dist pedal i am thinking RDV's HMP
but am unsure of how it will do with just the lows going through it (any sugestions here?)

guitar out- goes to spliter filter.  single in dual out.
[adjst low pass filter w/vol cntrl]-out >[dist pedal #2 ]
[adjst high pass filter w/vol cntrl]-out > [MT-2] ->                      outputs from both pedals goes to 2 channel mixer w/basic balance control to mix two signals. then out to amp

to get AC - open the wart up and pull the diodes out :-D

use a capacitor to drop voltage back down to somthing like 12v, becuase it should read something like 18, or even more, with no load and no diodes...

to get DC, obviously, but the didodes, and filtering cap, before the DC effect.

edit: oops, i said something stupid.

heaps of info here (and elsewhere) about filters and volume controls. Sounds like you already have a good idea of what you want. Buffer the input to split it into two filters (could be as simple as an RC and a CR network, with a pot as the R) Another op amp, with adjustable (modest) gain/attenuation.

Be aware that the filters, if not individually buffered, will interact with each other.

RC filters are simple. Active filters are ALMOST as simple, but have some hoopy terminology associated with them. Try looking at software called FilterLab from //www.microchip.com

"creating" AC from DC is possible, but it's difficult, expensive and far from ideal. Best to just get an AC adapter and be done with it.

ok cool well i can deal with out the ac for now but i think i should get to building the spliter/filter box i just want this to sound killer not ur typical dist.. i like the mt-2 but it has no low end.

look into national seminconductors website and loook at the app notes.

they make five or so chips [dont' rem the part no off top of head] but they are all ready dedicated eq filter circuits. and all one has to do is change the capacitors in the network and it is also stereo so you could adapt this to have four bands of control or two stereo bands.

aslo last i checked it was on the sample list and is available in regular dip and smt.

It might be possible to share a supply, or it might NOT, depending what is happening inside the power supply sections.
Sometimes an AC input has one side tied to ground & the other side is going to a + and a - DC generator;, other times it is to a bridge.
Personally, unless I was going to open them up & study what was going on, I'd just replace the burnt out AC tranny wiht one from www.jameco.com, at least you already have the end of the power supply!! and being AC it doesn't matter which way the wires go.

Well I can answer the question about my pedal.

I let my bass player use the one 'HMP lite' that I've built on 'Pinball Wizard' for the fuzz bass sound and it totally kicks ass on bass. It sounds like a distorted guitar and a regular bass playing at the same time. He doesn't want to give it back!

I've got to order some more boards for that pedal as I think I've got the kinks pretty well ironed out in it. You could try the full version, but it's a pretty complicated build for the extra control you get out of it.
