I'm planning to build the Insanity Box.  I have a Motorola MC14049UBCP chip. Would that chip be OK? I wasn't able to find the datasheet but I found something else. Same model number but perhaps, different manufacturer. The link is below:

Here's another but it is for MC14049UB.

Oh yeah!

As long as the part has a 'U' right after the 4049, it will work great.

I wanted to comment on this in an earlier thread but didn't get around to it.

Certain ICs in the CD4000 family are defined as either buffered or unbuffered by JEDEC specification even if they may not indicate so. The problem is some manufactures don't complie with those specifications so its best to stick with well known manufactures that will provide the information if the part is buffered or not.

Some manufactures will not produce a buffered and unbuffered versions of the same part but will instead recommend that you use another similar part that is buffered or not. Thus they don't have to create two version of each part. Look at the manufactures information to find out what they do produce and recommend for your application.
