Mine's gone microphonic on me(Rear position in a strat) and I gotta go buy one today and install it before I lose my freaking mind. The squeal, the squeal, the SQUEAL! I can't turn on anything with gain to it. AARRRGGGHHH!!!!!! It's been about 6 years since I went PU shopping. What's happening in a full-size humbucker??

Thank You Kindly

On my Strat a Duncan Custom in the lead position,on my 335 copy a pair of Dimarzio's 1-DP154,1-DP162 same as a Yamaha AES1500.You might want to check out Harmonic Design web site I have heard raves about their stuff.I had a 335 with a Duncan JB at the neck and a Duncan Custom at the bridge and that guitar was the balls.A friend has a PRS with Gibson Burstbuckers and they are smokin,PAF type sound.Loads to choose from.Good luck ,oh yea Musicans Friend has some good deals and I have had good luck shopping their.

i coudlnt' live without my carvins.  i use them cause they have a great bite to them not overly harsh. and have an open airy sound too them.. i also use pj marx when i can find them in pawnshop guitars.  as well as a dimarzio x2n and a tone zone.

by the way i have a holdsworth carvin pickup.  as well as an x2n for sale or trade.. lol

What exactly are you looking for? There's a very wide spread from jazz through rock to metal, or an all-rounder.
I'm partial to Duncans - particularly a Jazz (neck) and a JeffBeck (lead), but your opinion/wishes may vary. They both don't do the high-gain metal thing, but have a warm wonderful clean sound combined with great distorted sounds with more clarity and definition than your typical PAF

The Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates are great for a vintage vibe and the Full Shreds are great for a more agressive modern sound.  The Jazz in nice in the neck, if your into that sore of thing.

I like the PRS pickups...  Lindy Fralin...  Rio Grande...

Granted - it depends on what you're looking for..  Fralin will make you whatever you want - Rio Grandes are FAT.. PRS are amazingly flexible (IMHO)..

For a general good humbucker - the old Seymour Duncan JB pickup is great.

I'm replacing a Rio Grande BBQ-Bucker that has served me well for 6 Years but has gone microphonic(SSSKKKKRRRREEEEEEE!!!!). I did some research and I've had a JB which was good but a tad midrangey, so I got a bridge position Seymour Duncan 59' and it sounds great! Case closed.

Thanks for all your responses!

I wonder if that bucker just needs to be repotted. Does it have a cover on it?

I really like my Gibson 57Classic's...instantly give me a sound I am familliar with..not so hot that dynamics suffer, but just enough...and to me, Gibson humbuckers are what you compare the others to...the reference, just like Fender singlecoils are the reference for singlcoils...

Anyone else heard the Gibson Burstbuckers they really do the PAF thing well.I play a friends Old Barney Kessel Gibson Last week with never been diddled with PAFs the neck pickup is a minihumbucker like a Byrland.WOW what a versitile guitar He spoke with Goerge Gruhn and was told it must have been a special order, such a sweet guitar. What about Harmonic Design their stuff looks real cool.
Glad you are happy with your new SD he makes some great pickups. My Tele has 2 Joe Bardens and a Duncan Alnico pro strat in the middle,I put in a 5 way switch and a mini switch so I can also get astandard tele sounds in positions 5,4 and 3.

I repotted it today. All the wax had dribbled out due to me being lazy during the summer & not taking it out of the car after every gig. Does anybody re-repot their pickups, which is to say; Pot it, then let it dry and then repeat the process?

Check out the repotting pickups section under the misc. technical section at www.guitarnuts.com

It tells you all about how  to do it.

Hope that helps.
