2n7000's pinouts ALl the same?

I've got a Duende going using a 12v zener from source >l to gate, using a Q marked SK161...it had bent legs like a FET so I used it and it works [actually quite well] with that one in there.
 However I'm wonder also why none of the tried [4] Mosfets from my bag of 2n7000's work at al, just the battery click when its getting clipped on...
  Any Idaes?
