Starving the clock on a PB&J delay

Hi
I just picked up a PB&J delay. I am going to rehouse it and put a bigger rate pot on it. I check out the sandwich echo mods they are cool but not something I would use much.
This thing does an odd ascending pitch thing on the shortest setting when the battry is low.
Would starving the clock get the same effect?
