Ross Compressor Question

On Tonepad's Ross Compressor schematic, does D1 serve any purpose other than reverse polarity protection?  A 1N914 isn't going to last long when it's shorting a voltage source to ground, so I was thinking of using a 1N4001 in its place since it's a much tougher diode.

The 1N400x will only last a while, too. For a better polarity protector, check out the recent article at GEO.

That looks awesome! I have been meaning to put something like that in our pedals for a while, as we have been getting too many back the last few years that were damaged with AC adaptors. I guess that's due to so many PODs and line6 pedals being out there and using similar connectors but 9v AC

I wonder if there are any chips or other devices already available that could accomplish the same thing? Or how much it would cost to get something like a 4 pic IC made... every 9C DV effect could use one, the market would be huge. Would be much easier to fit and use an IC than the seperate parts when you are making a lot of pedals.
