what would be cool add-ons for an already existing delay?

the delay already has tap tempo,
delay time, feedback and level.

i'm thinking on/off switches for various LDR control (ie. feedback and delay time), and a feedback loop (LDR controlled too).

but what else?

Hi Cedric
Something that's great to try is controling delay time via an expresion pedal of some description. If your delay can self oscilate you can get some great noises and cool pitch bending effects while you play.
I've done it to an old ibenez analog delay and it works a treat.

yup.
got that covered too :)

Expression pedals for sure.  LFO controls for the mix and delay time knobs can be fun.  Envelope control for the delay time is just odd noise, but it's sort of fun.  You could put a momentary stomp in there that flipped the feedback way up.  How'd you manage the tap tempo?

along the tap tempo, when I use this function, I typically set my delay to single slap back, dotted eighth note delay.

Tap tempo is cool, tap tempo with a selection of different beat based time delay choices is icing.

I also second the expression pedal.

Also cool, is an effects loop only on the delay (or dry) only signal.

Clean sound with fuzz delay, etc.  I think Charlie Barth (sp?) did this cool mod on a PT-80 and the sound samples are wicked.

Dry out and / or a mix knob would be good.  I second the effects loop.

tap tempo: was already in the unit when i got it (sort of a project between me and a friend - he makes the WICKED stuff, and i do all the stupid noise stuff ;) )

wowo.. effects loop WOULD be cool.

any standard ideas on how to achieve this?

I just fixed a Ibanez DML10 delay for a friend that had modulation similar to jubjub's suggestion but it was an internal LFO and without external control. It also had a dry out and mix knob as suggested by Colin. It's a VERY fun pedal to play with.

I'll third the effects loop!

To add one inside the delay loop, just break the connection coming from the wiper of the regeneration pot and add a stereo jack with a shorting switch, or two jacks (like a Switchcraft #12A and a #11). Connect the wiper to the output jack and the switch contact of the input jack (or tip of a stereo jack and the switch that would normally ground the ring of a stereo jack with nothing plugged in). The wire that used to connect to the wiper is now the new effects return. This mod makes for some AMAZING sounds. Try adding a think chorus inside the delay loop and your signal will get chorused again and again with each repeat! It's also fun to put a short delay inside a long delay.

To add a loop to just the delayed or just dry sound, look for the place in the circuit where the signals are added together. There will probably be a good sized cap just in front of the mixing point (maybe 10uF). Break the connection at this point and insert your loop. The exact connections will vary from circuit, but just be sure to have caps in there to stop any DC from coming out of your send or receive jacks.

Take care,
