Hi I'm new here.I hope it is ok to post a question about repairs here, but i cant find help anywhere else.I bought a ross distortion pedal(the tan one) and i like the sound pretty good.Well i decided to try an adjustable radio shack power supply set on 9 volts to power it and got nothing but a loud buzz when i tried the battery again it would bypass but almost no sound when i kicked it on.So i took off the back cover and looked at the circut board. There is a burnt spot on the circut board by a part i am not able to identify It looks like a small diode red with a clear stripe around the center.I have found some schematics on the web but Iam still unable too identify this part.So my question is.Can anyone help me identify this part? I can send a close up pic in email. Also would a repair be as simple as replacing this part or have i done more damage than that?Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you burnt a power protection diode. It's placed there to protect against putting a battery or power supply backwards, which it sounds like that's what you did. The diode is SUPPOSED to give out before anything else does. So replace the diode, cross your fingers, and hope everything is ok.

Good news is if you did burn out other stuff, everything in that pedal is off the shelf, easy to find and cheap.

I doubt you did much else to the circuit other than ruin the diode. Desolder it and replace it with a 1N914 or a 1N4001 for a little more strength.

I would worry about your power supply though, when that diode burned through, the supply was shorted, could have burned something up in there.

Good luck,

The photo and schem of the tan model has no r/p diode on it. I pm'd you for photo of the damaged board and I asked you if the wart's polarity was correct. :?
