Just getting ready to make a neutron. Wondering if I can just straight replace the 7660 with a 1044. I read somewhere that U should Jumper pins 1 & 8.

This being the pinout

          +--()--+
BOOST | 1   8| V+
CAP+  | 2   7| OSC
 GND   | 3   6| LV
CAP-   | 4   5| VOUT
          +------+

Could anyone whose built the neutron with a 1044 confirm this for me please.

Have you done a forum search?

Strange, going by your handle/username I'd have thought you could figure this out already.

But the answer is YES.

Yes, it's a direct replacement...and yes, jumper pins 1 and 8 to run it at the higher frequency.

I used a 1044 on my recent Neutron build and had no problems with whine...not sure what mikeb is referring to???

Just be sure to keep the circuit ground and power ground separate as described in the Neutron plans.  Also, I used the recommended chokes (they were cheap and just as easy to install as jumpers) so that might have contributed to my whine-free Neutron.

Likely just my own experience and bad luck - I admit I haven't built a mutronIII clone exactly as per the Neutron layout. The point about the chokes is a good one!
