hey folks,
i have a lot of 2n3906 trans left over from a project and i want to do something with 'em... does anybody have any ideas on a project i can build using these?   thanks, jon

ErikMiller

Simple boosts? There are so many things you can do with those.

I always figure if nothing else, no matter what the transistor, I can make a single-transistor booster.

Ansil

well what do you want to do a gain thing a eq a phaser what.. you could do most anythign you want with it.   a little practive amp

cajununicorn

thanks for the quick replies....  i'm kind of a newbie, so probably NOT an ada flanger or sansamp! maybe a boost or drive...
i just haven't found many pnp projects on the usual sites. ideas or schematics greatly appreciated!    jon

Id be interested in an eq thing. Ideas?

Hello Hullo--
Hey Jon, how about some kind of single-tranny booster?  [LPB-1,  Gus'  NPN Boost,  etc....]  Check around  in the "Schematics" section.  {Actually,  Aron did a step-by-step tutor session on the NPN Boost at the top of this forum.]   One good thing about these is that they are "Fender amp friendly".  Some  of the Fuzz Face type stuff doesn't play well with Fenders!    [Having said that,  maybe you could throw together Jack Orman's  "Yaff" Fuzz using two 2N3906's.........low gain trannys sound REAL GOOD in Fuzz Face circuits!]

Convert any NPN transistor ckt I know of to PNP...just change the battery, and polarized capacitros, and diodes [invert the polarity] check out the reads around here for more ingo
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

thanks for the info...i didn't realize it was so easy to covert npn/pnp designs. i'd like to try a rangemaster style build.

joe gagan has alot of 2n3906 based circuits.

Hello Hello Jon--
The Rangemaster / Treble booster circuit is not really  "Fender Friendly" [At least not with the amp set-up you've got].   Try a more "full range" booster like a LPB-1 or NPN Boost.  Also, the transistors you've got [2N3096] lend themselves more to a full range booster.  Save the Rangemaster-style build for a good germanium [or, a well thought out and correctly biased silicon] tranny!
Brian.

cajununicorn

thanks brian. i'm going to try the npn boost (pnp boost!) with the extra eq circuit at the end. by the way, do you have a local source for germanium transistors?    jon
