I started out thinking I was going to make a Rat clone with a bunch of switchable mods and a 3-band EQ to boot, but I ended up at the opposite end of the spectrum: two knobs and one toggle switch. I call it the Misanthrope (I plan on painting some labels on it later). I did an elaboration on the Ruetz mod, took out the filter control entirely, gave it asymmetrical LED clipping (two blue LEDs with an extra 1N914 on one side), and tailored the bass response so there is no loss of balls when it's switched on. The toggle switch changes the low-pass filter capacitor just before the opamp, giving it a "dark" mode that is analogous to turning down the tone knob on the bass (or guitar).
