Boutique Fuzz Face NPN version Germ or Silicon transistors?

I'm trying to get this one work:

and there is propably a wiring/soldering mistake but is this NPN
version meant for NPN Silicon or NPN Germanium transistor?

Looks like a Neg ground scheme to me. I wouldn't try any PNP's in it that you might like...stick with the NPN's for trying it out.

Yes, negative ground...  use NPN transistors.

Lots of silicon trannys will do, the 2N3904, 2N5088, BC549, BC108 and similar.  

For germanium, the 2N388A or 2N1306 are suitable.
