Sorry, this must've been asked thousands of times, but is this layout http://www.aronnelson.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=keyalbum.KeywordAlbum&g2_keyword=Fuzz+Face+vero&g2_itemId=43394 for PNP or NPN transistors? Or does it even matter? I'm quite new to this and I'd really appreciate if you could help me out.

Thanks. I've been experimenting with different Q2 transistors for a while and had a great deal of fun. Didn't quite get the sound right, though.  Guess I'll just keep testing out different transistors, until I find the best combo.

The difference in transistors is part of it, but sometimes you need to do a little more tinkering to get it just right. Consider buying a breadboard if you haven't already. A big part of what makes a transistor sound the way it does are the other components. Swapping those out systematically on a breadboard is a piece of cake.

NPN and PNP transistors can not be substituted for each other.
