I'm building a voltage converter. I think that's the correct term. I want it change 12 volts to 9 so I can power a distortion circuit in my tiny giant. The schematic calls for a 1N5400 diode. I'm having trouble locating one. Would a 1N5408 do the same thing? His important is it to have that exact diode. The link to the schematic posted below. Thanks for the help.

The 1n5408 should be fine, its rated for the same current, it can work with a higher maximum voltage, but that won't matter for this circuit.
