I just checked out the demo of your mad clone pakrat and really liked it, somehow it manages to keep a directness to it instead of the thinning out I usually hate with chorusses. It certainly does good leslie sounds, I think this is where your pedal really shines. The out of tune warble with the trem/vib is hilarious. I once did that mod on my Small Clone and every time I used it I got that 'One more time and your out of the band' look from the other guys. However listening to how it sounds on yours, I think if used at the right time in a song it could be a real show-stopper.

@GGBB; great compressor, I like the idea the side-chain and the subtle but very useful high-pass filter. I also like how you took the placing of the off-board wiring into account when designing the layout, I also spend loads of time trying to keep the off-board wiring short and try placing the circuit parts connected to pots and switches as close to it on the board as possible.

I forgot to reply to pinkjimiphoton's photonic juergulator. Those are some really interesting sounds you got there, I never delved into the harmonic percolator, so I'm not sure what sort of effect it it, but there are some really awesome sounds going on with feedback, overtones and what sounds like envelope filtering, especially on the bit where you use the whammy-bar. Really interesting and I'm sure going to try and build that one.

Thanks Liquitone.  I can't really say I have a methodology for doing those things other than to simply start out the layout with the off-board connections placed roughly where I want them.  Then the rest of the layout is filled in.  I also try to lay out the circuit in sections - seems to help when you need to move things around a bit.  I think I got a fair bit lucky with the Orange Smoothie considering it has 6 pots - only the toggle isn't in the ideal place - but the band-pass idea was a last minute inspiration added when I was actually already about to do the PCB.  I've done a bunch of layouts that way (future projects) although this is the first one I've built (but not the first one laid out).  It has worked out well so far, but the more complicated the circuit the more difficult it is to make it work, especially if there are ICs involved.

I was so busy finishing my pedal I had no time to listen to many of the entries until now.  Kudos to everyone - there isn't a pedal I wouldn't like to have for myself.  I don't know how the judges are going to make a decision.  For those of you who managed more than one entry - how??!!!!!  Mucho respecto.  I barely got one done, and it wasn't the pedal I planned to enter - it was the one I was already starting when the contest was announced.

thanks kay,
it's an interesting circuit, one of the weirder fuzzes, not in the fuzzface or toneblaster school, but something different.
you can get a lot of sounds out of it, hopefully with my humble mods a bit more.

thank you for the kind words!!  i am BLOWN AWAY at your and everyone else's entries.

look forward to seeing how it all shakes out!! ;)

oh man... beauty. what me worry. *throws in the towel*

Thanks Jimi but towel throwing is not allowed! I'm sure everyone wants to throw in the towel after seeing all of the incredible builds. These competitions really make people turn it up a notch, and that's the fun part.

Thanks Kay! I wish my video had better audio, which is sad since I have a recording studio in my house :icon_rolleyes:  The chorus is actually pretty lush, but for the same reason you mentioned, I prefer a phaser over a chorus. The mods make it a whole new pedal though, and the synth stuff is fun to mess around with. I really didn't do a great job of describing the functions but to add to that.... the tremolo is on a pot, so you can mix in just a little of it to really add depth. The next one I build will be the Mad Clone Plus with the stereo mod added  :icon_twisted:

On behalf of the judges, at this time, I want to thank everyone for entering.

Contestants, if you are not already subscribed to this thread, please do so immediately. We will need everyone to be prompt with their replies when "the moment you've all been waiting for" comes.

Also: If everyone could please do me the solid of not quoting entire entry posts, that would be a big help. More than just netiquette in this case. :)

pakrat - brilliant theme.  I'd buy one of these just to have a picture of Alfred E. Neuman on a pedal.  The fact that it sounds awesome is gravy.  The small clone is on my list so I am really interested in the mods you did - nice.

Is there an expected timeline for the results?

Just went back and looked at all of the entries! FANTASTIC and INSPIRING builds here. Definitely some must builds!  ;)

Seriously, we're working on it individually right now and will probably get together this week or the next to combine our scores. I don't expect it to be a long process.

@GGBB Thanks a lot Gord! I really like your Orange Smoothie too and look forward to building one. I'd be happy to share my project files with you if you're looking to build a modded Small Clone.

i tell you guys, you should build a clone THEORY. completely different animal, and very close to the tone of pakrat's

Nice work on the part of all the builders and their entries! I look forward to this judging panels decisions.
IMHO, one build stands out head and shoulders above the others....  :-X  ;D
PS: Don't even bother asking which. I ain't going there...

That's where it's at.

i have a couple favs here, but i'm not telling.

i am blown away by the entries, and saved every project, again, to my "must build" folder.

thanks to all the entrants, the awesome judges, the community at large, and especially aron, without whom's vision none of this shit would be possible.

Crikey!  I go on holiday for ten days and hundreds of fantastic pedals appear!  These are all great builds - just spent ages going through the last ten pages.  Now need a bit of a nap.   :D

I was hoping to get an entry posted just before I disappeared to my island holiday retreat.  Unfortunately, the day before we went away (25th) we were paying a visit to my wife's Dad, who's been in hospital for a few months.  Long story short, an hour-long visit turned into all afternoon and all evening, and things were looking grim.  Thankfully, he's improved, wife and I had a restful holiday, and now I have thread-burn on my tired retinas.    :icon_eek:

Sooo... will restrospectively "finish" my build and post in the usual Pictures thread.  Looking at the builds here, I probably didn't stand much of a chance.   ;)   Well done to all who entered!   :icon_biggrin: :icon_biggrin: :icon_biggrin:   And good luck to the judges!

But without the 5s and 6s and 8s?  All these scores are 9 plus a fraction.  Who get's the larger fraction?
