LP Super Six vero troubles ....

The two 10nF capacitors shown on the layout should, according to the only schematic I can find, both be 100nF. Other than that, it looks perfectly fine to me.

Well ... I got it all hooked up and gave it a go but i got some issues !

It will pass audio, but it sounds all farty like a MRK1 tone bender !

I have double checked all my soldering , wiring , and my vero work , it all looks correct ??

Could it be a bad transistor ( BS170 ) ??

All the controls seem to work ... but it sound like 2 kinds of ass at this point !

I've had a few farty circuits myself and my guess (and thats all it would be is a GUESS) is that the transistor is not biased right.
I await confirmation or denial by someone who know what they're talking about.
Did you compare your vero with the Schematic btw?

Nice little circuit.
I just built it. Heres my perf layout and the actual circuit i built (worked first time well nearly because i forgot to put the mosfet in:) )
it's intended to fit in a 1590B with a battery.
I might just use it for testing mosfets too.
I'm gonna go test some now and then trial a2n7000 in it too because im a bit of a hack who like to play transistor roulette

The break up on the 2n7000 seemed a little less harsh than with a BS170 and it seemed to have a little more gain.
This is not a scientific finding just my old worn out ears and brain.
Remember to reverse the 2n7000 if you try it because of the pinout.

that circuit looks to me like a mosfet version of collecter bias, similar circuit layout as in bigg muff stages, minus diodes, and minus bjt. in that case, I would guess the bias would vary to some extent, depending on the individual mosfet's characteristics.

Problem Solved !!

I put in a 3.3 Meg resistor , should have been 3.3 K  !!
Ooops !!

Very nice sounding booster / OD !!  The tone control does not work very well , i may need to work on that ...
This one sounds to me like it would be better suited for single coil strat type guitars !

Cool good work Hottubes.
I thought that too about the gain control but it depends on the amp and guitar your using. I think its going to come in handy as an effect.
I've yet to trial it on a tube amp at break up point. My wifes at home today and although she nearly deaf she's not deaf enough for me to crank my little fender and thoroughly test it. Thats a job best left for when i have the house to myself.

I think it will make a good recording tool because it doesnt get too saturated or muddy.

The tone control does not work very well , i may need to work on that ...

It might work better with a smaller capacitor across the tone pot, maybe you should replace the 100nF shown with a socket and experiment. 22nF or so would be better, I think

I'll give that a whirl too. Sockets in just need to experiment now.
