I missed C6 the 10uf output cap between pin 7 of IC2 and volume lug 3 on the layout.
Its built and it worked first fire up.
It has a serious amount of gain and output.
I just did it with the 2 red led clipping diode option for now.
It sounds sweet and very amp like . I'm not certain it sounds like a riot yet but then i subbed the original 4580 op amps with 4558s until i get the 4580s from the republic.

I like the tone stack alot and may consider it for future builds as an alternative.
Time to check my diode stash and see what i've got.
Any alternate diode suggestions mean time.
I know for sure i dont have a blue led so thats a no goer unless theres a sub for that too?
for tone and volume i'm using 10kB pots
All 22nf caps where subbed with 20nf near enough for a hobbyist.
I used a 1k for R6
The rest is as per the Mark Gor schematic above.
I'm over the moon that my layouts are working too.
I had to move a few bits around but not much really.
Heres a pic

Those 1n34's are sweet. I love the break up

Thanks for sharing Kipper  ;D

It's tempting to try this myself...in fact I just might! Did you by chance try an asymmetric trio of the 1n34s also? Only asking because I believe I only have 3 left in my inventory.

I remember a few years ago I was at a Guthrie Govan clinic and he had a Riot going into one of those 'budget' pcb Cornford amps and it just smoked! Of course it helps when your Guthrie  ;)

Kipper4

I'm affraid i didnt try the trio of 1n34's
Its the first time i've used them just had enough to try it and i'm glad i did.
I'm putting some more on my next order.
I think you will like it, but thats because i do and i'm just usung my self built Noisy cricket as a test rig.
I'm gonna try it throught the PJ now i have a switch on the two diode choices.

I forgot the R8 100R output resistor too in my above layout which is probably why mine is as loud as it is.
I'll repost the updated layout in the next post
This was intended for perfboard layout not vero
Theres a vero layout over on tagboard but i cant say if its verified as i havent built it.

The 100R resistor on the output didnt make that big of a differance to my ears.
I guess why it has so much gain is so when you roll off the gain for the cleaner sounds you can use it more like a booster.
Its got lots of character with a clean solid state amp and more tone possibilitys than most overdrives.
I prefer it with a Solid state amp.

Not so sure the 100R would decrease the output level so much as a pure series resistor after the volume pot to the output. Probably someone with more knowledge can explain the purpose of it. If I'm building something and find that the output volume is overwhelming I'll either a: decrease the value of the volume pot, or b: put a series resistor *before* the volume pot to add more resistance to the hot side of the voltage divider that the pot creates.

Also: Yes, I think as soon as my breadboard is freed up I'll give this a go and box if I like :) I still could use a hotter dirt box in my rig since my cascaded jfet monstrosity has been letting me down tone-wise in all environments except on the bench of course ::)

I put mine in before the pot. I guessed it would do more good there.
I think maybe a 560R after the pot might do more good as attenuation.
Its so loud you could probably DI it into a line level input and record direct.
I'll have to check
Edit: yep it records ok not the best distortion recording i ever heard but it will work. It might be slightly improved if i could find a suitable cab sim in the box.

What should the values of R6 and R10 be please.
I'm sure i read somewhere they are differnat to those in Mark Gor Shematic?

1k3? and 8k2?
R6 is 11.3k
R10 is 8.25k
10kc for tone pot? I;ve found its kinda pointless to have a tone pot when you can implement a whole tonestack of your choice. I'm in the middle of a new project. Mad professor stonegray, but instead of tone pot i've used blackstar eq, with ISF pot. And i've uesd dual opamp instead of a tl051/tl061, in order to bring the volume back up. And a diode switch. But i must say that those fets ( 2n3819 ) sound great as diodes. You should check them out.

Kipper4

Even better with humbuckers.
Time to try the bass next :)

Doesn't matter what you did to get it... If it sounds good, then it is good!

This riot of mine sounds grrrrreat with bass. It roars like insane, and thanx to james eq it allows lots of bass to be dialed in.
PS i've used 10uf tantal cap for c6, and 100n ceramic for c10.

Jim
I'll inform you when its finished. But my guess is it will sound like a motherf**ker.

Kipper4

Why dont you share your Schematic so we can see how you implimented the James Eq please.
