Riot adaptation

After a lot of double checking the switch pinout I now have all three diode options onboard and working.
I love all three but if i had to do away with one it would be the super compressed red leds (bear in mind i used 3mm red leds).
it might have been better to use 5mms leds .

I think the zener and blue led is good.

Btw i stopped the germaniums farting when i checked the orientation and found i had them all going the same direction (contrary to the schematic) thats fixed now and I like it the best.
The Ge is less compressed and a little more open sounding.

Plus it sounds a bit less like a screamer or common or garden distortion.
I'm still waiting on the 4580 chips they should arrive next week i hope so i can swap those out and have more of a play.
anyone tried mixing op amps 1 4558 and a 4580? in differant positions?

I must be getting old cuase if my kid played that I'd be saying "turn that sh1t off and listen to something thats not mushy, overly fast and that you can understand the lyric"

yup.. I like metal but I would rather not have the labels... I can deal with a couple or so like thrash, death, progressive etc just so I know before hand what I might or might not want to listen to...  I am especially getting tired of hearing about this djent bull sh!t... I mean I like the music but wtf is up with saying djent over and over in blogs and forums and using it in sentences that make no f'ing sense?? I love Meshuggah, Periphery and Animals as Leaders etc.. but let's cut the BS with the djent word already!!! I'ma start a new vein (no pun intended) and call it D'genitalia cause when I play it sounds like I'm draggin my genitalia across the strings...

Oh, and by the way.. I'm glad you got your riot clone all sorted! Now can we hear some sound samples?

Hello guys, I've just finished dreadmaster in Eagle, pcb and schematic. If you are interested i can share it with you.

I've tried 1458 as ic1 and 4580 as ic2, the result was more mids, less gain than with two 4580 and i think it was louder.
Nice demo. It doesn't have to be extreme metal to be good .

I've been practicing with Eagle all weekend. I've now finished my Riot schemo + procorat,Boss FA1,orange squeezer, and a simple booster I call Silver lady. (not all my design ROG fetzer front end)
Trust me you wont get extreme metal from me.
The demo cant be that popular since its had 40 more veiws this weekend and yours is the only comment.
I'll take it down soon and in future do demos by request and pm or email  them.
Cant wait to see your schemo.

I'm still awaiting my 4580 chips in the post. I'll have a play with them and do some trials. More mids would work for me and i'm sure the gain sacrifice wouldnt be that much that it would worry me.
I hardly get the volume pot past 1/4 any way. I just did the demo without much gain. It gets great sustain at high gain settings and nice harmonic content but the downside is it gets woolly or muddy too.
it might be alright for lead stuff and single notes but for chord work its not of much value. IMO

That's why it's not good for black metal. It lacks clarity when gain pot passes 2 o'clock. Stone gray from mad professor has more gain, better clarity and overall nicer sound.

I'm in the middle of modding one. But that damn job is killing my pedal building
Tl072 will not work here. tlo61 will be fine. If you want to use dual opamps ( tlo72 ) you will have to wait for me to finish modding this thing .

the anderton fuzz is a little to much like a fuzz for me in this instance i was looking for something more like the stone grey sound if you get me.
After a quick read up the extra inverter stages are apparently connected output to +9v and input to ground IIRC.
so i kind get what the little diagram in the corner of the other schemo meant now.
And these chips are suseptable to static charges hence why some builds feature op amp or fet input stages.

I like the way the distortion was not too mushy though on the stone grey.
It may still not be the perfect distortion, a bit like the perfect woman. I dont know if its been invented yet!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice one Jim thats next on my list for now.
I know i have those chips. I couldnt remember why i bought them. (actually thought i'd bought them in error instaed of 308's) but since googling this up i found and old thread where it was discussed before) If i had half a brain I'd be dangerous.
