Sanity check - building a tap tempo switch for a Strymon

I'm putting together a tap tempo switch for my Strymon, since I really don't want to spend $50 on something I can build for about $15 - just a sanity check on how to wire this up.  Here's what Strymon says the unit needs to see:

Many of you have asked us which external TAP tempo switches we recommend be used along with our TimeLine , Mobius, and Flint pedals. While we cannot recommend any products in particular we can tell you that the both of these pedals will work with any external TAP tempo switch as long as the switch is designed with a normally open, single pole, double throw (SPDT) type switch that switches the TIP between the SLEEVE (ground or 0VDC) to the RING (5VDC).

So I get one of these: http://www.pedalpartsplus.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=PPP&Product_Code=9004&Category_Code=SWI and wire the tip to the center lug and the ring and sleeve to opposing lugs on the same side (leave the other side alone) - right?

Okay - so I got the switch and the wiring approach works, but the switch itself clicks, which appears to confuse the Flint (it sometimes treats the "click" as two stomps. Plus, it is hard to operate - you really have to stomp on it and the results are inconsistent.  Does anyone know where I can find a clickless SPDT or DPDT momentary switch?  I e-mailed Small Bear and they only have the switch I've already tried (their clickless switches are all single throw, which will not work, according to Strymon).

I don't think that works - I asked Small Bear about it and they said it clicks.  I posted a similar request on Madbean and someone responded that its unlikely that a DT switch would work very well without requiring a positive click action to guarantee the momentary contact actually engages (you're not just breaking a connection - you're switching between two . . .   So I think the only way to make a smooth, clickless tap pedal meeting the Strymon requirements might be to use an active circuit with a relay.  Anyone have any thoughts on what that might look like?

This method should work fine for a DD-7 tap tempo controller switch, so long as I make sure the "normally open" or "normally closed" matches what the Boss pedal requires?

As there is only a contact between ring and sleeve being made wouldn't a SPST work?  Why specify an X-wing (SPDT) when 4 lugs aren't even being used?  I must be missing something..

(assuming its normally open!)

Edit: Surely "momentary" means momentarily connected, not momentarily disconnected?
