So I finally FINALLY got my Small Clone working so its time to work on another challenge...I thought I'd give a go to an Electric Mistress. I usually do my shopping at Tayda and have ordered from Smallbear too. There are a couple things I didn't find at either place so I figured I'd ask here since I'm sure someone here has built one (if not a few of you)....

IC SAD1024A

Transistor 7815AC

Caps
220uF    aluminum electrolytic
1uF      aluminum electrolytic
4.7uF)  aluminum electrolytic..... maybe one of them have aluminum caps but I didn't find them

I might just pick something else to build or give this one a start and shelve it for a while until I have a few things to go shopping for.

the sad1024 bb chip runs about $60-100 each.  no longer made, be careful with ebay also.  the caps are very common and should be anywhere that sells parts.  and the 7815 is just a power supply chip.  common also.

you might be able to replace the sad with a MN series Ic with some tinkering.  there is info on the forum about this.

Wow wasn't expecting to hear that. What does the current Mistress use? I'm sure its not a $100 part. What made me think of building this is that I saw someone posted an old one on kijiji here for $100 and I thought it'd be more fun to make my own rather then buy one.

Canucker

saw those caps but they aren't aluminum are they? I've never seen a design that specified aluminum caps for some (or any actually) electrolytics

this is one of the cases that sometimes the ic is worth the cost of the whole item.  the rebuilds use the MN series or AD series Ics.

should be the power ic.

what makes you think any of these parts are bad?

edit:
most caps over 1uf are AL electrolytic.  the 1ufs you can get film or tants also.

I wasn't aware that most caps over 1uf were aluminum...I never saw that specified in a description before and didn't see it in the Tayda parts description so I didn't think anything was bad. As a result I just thought it wasn't the proper part. I'm far from an expert on any of this. I just do a pretty good job at following patterns and have a good eye for detail. No formal training in electronics. I read a lot and pick up tons here so I may be missing some pretty basic knowledge but have a handle on other stuff that isn't so basic. Every time I come here I learn a little more!

The Current Lover at madbean uses the MN3007 (and variants).

For all intents and purposes, electrolytics are aluminium - unless they specifically say "tantalum".  You can learn to filter out the largely-redundant word.   :icon_wink:

+1. Save the SAD1024's for repairing vintage effects AND save a bunch of money too.  ;)
That's where it's at.

getting a real unit for $100 or under is really the best option for this pedal.  if you don't like it, you will have resell value.  it is one of those pedals that is really built for fun and modifying not savings.

Canucker

fun and modifying would be the goal here. I've gotta do something constructive with my free time in these winter months. I'd rather have something I built then any more store bought pedals at this point.

There's a highly modified Electric Mistress floating around on here called the Flexi-Flanger. I was planning an awesome weird flanger until I discovered that all my cool ideas had already been done in that project. Well, everything but the envelope follower, but when I looked that up it turned out Mark Hammer had already done it. I always feel smart until I search on here. :icon_redface:

Oh, and the Flexi-Flanger uses MN3207, $5 from Small Bear.
