I hereby reclaim this hideous enclosure

"Jimi Photon"??

Shoulda left it pink on the outside...   ;)

Pinko on the inside?

(Sorry, Jimi, couldn't resist)

Minor diversion from our philosophical discussion of 50 Shades of Pink...

I've dusted off the breadboard and tested out what I'm planning to build for this enclosure:

Sounds good enough to build, so I hope to start soldering and/or redrilling soon.

TS variant?
It's based off of the Bluesbreaker/Morning Glory.  Incorporating some known mods to let more bass through and ease off the piercing treble and increase available gain.  Nothing groundbreaking, but I feel that it is a good use of the stuff I already have.

Although, I suppose it might be interesting to note that the first thing I'm reaching for to start building this circuit is some 14-gauge Romex.

Right on.  I've been thinking about a Bluesbreaker lately.  I've never played one so I don't know if I would want to change it or in what way.  If you're so inclined, wouldn't mind seeing what you've come up with.

I'm about to draw it up (and I will post it), but mostly I haven't strayed too far from bean's version of the Bluesbreaker (http://www.madbeanpedals.com/projects/8Ball/8Ball2015.pdf) plus the morning glory JFET output stage.  I've made substitutions based on my inventory (including some parallel cap combinations), and I refuse to carry over the full 2 cap, 2 resistor series combination between the input and clipping stages (an artifact from buffered bypass origins, I believe). Added in a tiny bit of KoT inspiration without serious thought.

Update: Here's what I've got, subject to change after I listen to it a bit more

So it's "Morning Wood Release" then...  😂
I build.  I fix.  I fix again.  And again.  And yet again.  (sometimes again once more).  Then I have something that works! (Most of the time!).

Step 3: Reconfiguring (part 1)
As I've mentioned, I'm using the lid as the top in this build, so the lid is where I have started the redrilling process.  First, the pots:

Ubiquitous Alphas, spaced as high and (almost) as close as I could place them (because I'm going to cut out the middle of this lid to make a window).

Here are some stand-in 0.5"12.7 mm knobs (they may end up in the final build, as I don't have a lot of choices on hand -- at least they are high quality ones).

Step 3: Reconfiguring (part 2)
Drilled two more holes in the lid: one for the stomp switch and one for a short lever toggle (won't get in the way of stomp switch operation, except maybe if you're drunk and barefooted...).

I carefully planned out the placement of the toggle using my precision digital calipers while drinking beer the whole time -- the two balance each other perfectly.   :icon_wink:

Just need to drill holes for input, output, and power, and then I can tackle cutting the lid to make room for the acrylic window.

If you have a second nut (ahem) for your short bat (ahem) switch, you can lower it even further.  One nut on the inside (giggity) with just enough bushing poking through for the outside nut to be flush with the top of the bushing when tightened down.  Then even drunk, barefoot, and pregnant folks won't accidentally flip it.  Also, I think toggle switches look cooler that way, but that's just me.

I believe that toggle does have two nuts, so getting it deeper in that hole shouldn't be a problem.   :icon_eek: :icon_redface:

Better. Thanks for the suggestion!

This is seriously the most inadvertently dirty pedal I've ever built!

Did I mention the pulldown resistors for discharging the caps so the pedal doesn't accidentally pop when it gets turned on?

Quite coincidentally (I swear!), the toggle will control the clipping mode: down for soft, up for hard.   :icon_lol:

This is getting way too crazy!

I've been busting to get into this thread, but therm keeps getting all the good lines.

QuoteI carefully planned out the placement of the toggle using my precision digital calipers while drinking beer the whole time -- the two balance each other perfectly.

I always use my (non-digital) calipers the other way round. I like to look at the box to see what goes where in proportion, drill all the holes so it looks -just- right. then I get the calipers and measure how much space I have left inside to fit the important parts, circuit board, jacks, pots, you know, that kinda stuff.

I've got a fluffy pink box here I could show you. it comes with wood. has a larger knob than usual. carry on.
don't make me draw another line.

You didn't mention anything about nails, laquers & polish remover, Rob...  :icon_lol:

@ amptramp: I've recently verified inefficiency of modern aceton-free nail polish removers on a nail-laquer thread locked nut...

This morning, I thought of another potential name for this pedal: Melania Trump Status Boost.  She was rumored to have met her husband while working as an "escort" and she is (sort of) in the White House now.  Goes with my plan to repaint this enclosure white.  I happen to also have metallic gold paint I could use to decorate the inside with.... (Please don't make me do that).

Silicon(e) on the inside.
I will implant plenty of parts, but please don't encourage anyone to say "caulk".
