Green ringer sounding terrible

Hi,
My second pedal project is a Green Ringer on perfboard.
I made one on perfboard, and it didn't sound great. A tiny hint of the octave effect on some notes, but otherwise just sounds a bit "electronic" and crunchy with lots of attack.
I bought a breadboard and built another one, this sounds very similar.

Any idea why this sounds like it does?
Thanks,
Chris

Ben Lyman recently went through this. Read this thread, lots of good info here:
