Octave Face

Did anybody built the octave face circuit at stellan's site? Although i here some effect there is a great noise and distortion at all settings that isn't normal.There isn't such thing at the wave file that demonstartes the sound of octave face. I use AC127 transistors (I can find them very easy in Greece) Germanium diodes AA-? , they told me that they are compatible with AA118.I checked everything in my board and every connection seems to be ok.Does anybody have any suggestinon??
